It's been awhile since we've been able to get the band together, but we promise - this program was WORTH the wait!
August 23, 2021: After a long (unplanned) hiatus, Damselfly has reunited to rehearse their next program of new and new-to-us music! Though this fall we'll be revisiting some older favorites for an "Irland in der Schweiz" program, we have also been luxuriating in works by Tania León, Rebecca Saunders, and Eliza Brown in addition to preparing a brand-new work for the ensemble written by our dear friend Alfred Zimmerlin.
We cannot wait to share this program - please stay tuned! |
July 24, 2021: Damselfly is proud to present its first album, Buaine na Gaoithe, released in July 2021. Recorded in Belfast, Northern Ireland; Maynooth, Ireland; and La Crosse, WI, Buaine na Gaoithe is a collaboration between composer Ryan Molloy and poet Martin Dyar - check out this press release from the National University of Ireland for more information about the album, which also includes Molloy and Dyar's song Death and the Post Office, performed by Damselfly's Liz Pearse.
Buaine na Gaoithe can be purchased digitally via Bandcamp. To listen online, check it out on Spotify or YouTube! You can also check out a podcast interview with Ryan and Martin from the University of Liverpool. To read more about the genesis of Buaine, check out the Irish Times interview with Ryan Molloy here. |

November 10, 2020: Though meeting in-person may not be possible right this moment, Damselfly has big plans for 2021-2022 in the US and Switzerland. With new works from Junghae Lee and Alfred Zimmerlin alongside our continued collaboration with Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon, our ongoing love affair with the music of Ursula Mamlok, and perhaps some new-to-us pieces. . .we have a LOT to practice, and many reasons to look forward with happy anticipation!

December 21, 2019: Damselfly Trio is delighted to announce that our upcoming tour "Garden of My Soul: Chamber Music of Our Time" has added a stop at Black Mountain College in Asheville, NC! Our ongoing devotion to the music of Ursula Mamlok (who spent several months at BMC in 1944) has been recognized by the Mamlok-Stiftung, and with the generous support of the Dwight and Ursula Mamlok Foundation, we are proud to present her flute Variations, her flute/voice Haiku Settings and her flute/harp/voice trio Der Andreas Garten at the historic institution and on other stops on our tour.
November 25, 2019: We have some exciting news regarding our upcoming return to North Carolina - check out our events, and stay tuned for additional dates and details soon!

July 21, 2019: We have been gathering media from our recent Swiss tour of Laufenburg, Basel, and Baden - what a delight to perform in a forge/art gallery, a centuries-old blacksmith meeting hall, and a gorgeous garden and fountain-adjacent venue.
Thank you especially to composers Ryan Molloy and Alfred Zimmerlin for traveling to hear their music, to poet Ingrid Fichtner for her presence in Baden (and presents! her poetry in English/Deutsch book of poetry is a treat!!), and to Bettina Brand of the Mamlok-Stiftung for her discussion of Ursula Mamlok's music during the Basel performance.
Look for new recordings on both our media page and soundcloud!
May 16, 2019: Good news, everyone! Damselfly's upcoming performances in Switzerland are now up on our Events page!
About the tour:
Little Songbook Project features the magical ‘Der Andreasgarten’ by German-American composer Ursula Mamlok, set to poems by her husband, Dwight Mamlok, inspired by the beauty of their garden along the San Andreas Fault in California, while just underneath lies the powerful and possibly destructive force of nature, and the dichotomy in that relationship. In honor of American maverick George Crumb’s 90th birthday year, we will perform his ‘Federico’s Little Songs for Children’ set to the poetry of Federico Garcia Lorca, musical animal jokes and allegories, deftly brought to life in Crumb’s singular sound world.
Two other works, transcriptions made especially for us, are ‘Aufgang’ by Swiss composer, Alfred Zimmerlin, set to two poems by Ingrid Fichtner, and two ‘Songs from Comala' by Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon, from his cantata ‘Comala', a chamber setting of the Mexican novel Pedro Paramo, by Juan Rulfo. Finally, we are thrilled to be giving the Swiss premiere of ‘Buaine na Gaoithe’, our 2018 ecstatic song cycle collaboration with our Irish friends, composer Ryan Molloy and poet Martin Dyar.
These concerts are kindly supported in part by the Aargauer Kuratorium and the Irish Arts Council (commission).

We shall miss the scenery, the cameraderie, and the sheer beauty of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Many thanks to our composer, host, and tour-guide Dr. Ryan Molloy for all his work in bringing the gorgeous Buaine ne Gaoithe to life. Thanks also to Martin Dyar, whose poems are truly stunning - it was a joy to tell these stories.
September 20, 2018:
Due to Hurricane Florence, several of our upcoming North Carolina concerts must be postponed. We hold the area dear, and bring thoughts of recovery with us!
